An opportunity fallen right from the sky.

I guess I have to start this new blog by telling about how this new adventure came my way. Last september (2014), during the course of my second working-holiday trip in Australia, and just before venturing into the long Bibbulmun Track, I granted myself a month of "holidays" back in France. At the same time, my father, el maestro Pascal Bourguignon (http://pascal-bourguignon.over-blog.com/), had just come back from a two week journey in Spitzbergen, where he had been working on a boat as a photographer guide : he had stars in his eyes, and magic shots in his pockets... And he said : "the hostess of the boat won't be working the next season... there's an opportunity to be seized". Enticing !

I sent my résumé, a covering letter, and a supa dupa letter of recommendation from the owners of the campsite La Forge de Sainte-Marie
(http://www.laforgedesaintemarie.com/). And, wonder of wonders, I got an enthusiastic answer. Three months and two interviews later, I got the job : from late May to early November, the second half of the sailing season. Hallelujah !

It's nice having sometimes the feeling that, to go ahead, you just have to open your wings and let the wind carry you ; and to seize all the nice opportunities that it brings to you.

Hoist the mainsail !

There won't be any mainsail to be hoisted on the Polaris, but still some work to be done. The Polaris, a 34m motor boat which can accommodate 12 passengers maximum, has been rehabilitated by Polaris Expeditions, a french company, in order to reach, in the arctic seas (Arctica is the one on top), a compromise between the comfort of icebreakers and the small groups of sailboats. It offers, from February to October, summer cruises to discover Spitzbergen's fauna and flora, and winter expeditions to go skiing in the scandinavian Alps of northern Norway. You can find more about the Polaris on this website : http://www.polaris-expeditions.com/.

On board of this "small" boat, I will be working as a steward (wearing the neat outfit that comes along with it !) : I'll have to prepare the breakfasts, the buffet lunches, to serve the dinners, to serve at the bar at any time, to help the cook if necessary, and to clean the cabins and the lounge ; and I'll have to do other odd jobs. No need to tell that it won't exactly be a walk in the park !

But if it's the price to pay for discovering all the magical scenery and ambiance of the Far North, its silence and loneliness, for shaking a white bear's paw, or for admiring Northern lights.... then I'll pay it willingly !

Svalbard, but not only !

(This blog, inch'Allah, won't be limited to my upcoming adventures to Svalbard. I will also tell you about my other travels, past or yet to come. About travels to other lands, or travels into the heart of the most secret land : the mind. For who wants to discover the world, actually wants to discover oneself. "Into the Real" is about venturing into the discovery of reality, the outer as well as the inner one.

Enjoy !
